Our favourite 3D printer

Our favourite 3D printer

When we started our journey into the world of additive manufacturing, it became clear quite quickly that if we were going to be successful we would need to standardise on a technology platform that cuts down the guess work and allows us to build a repeatable process. You can trust us when we say that where we have ended up vs where we began are two entirely different destinations. Those early days were impressively frustrating because the variability in our production output and the subtle but constant changes to our workflow was simply not sustainable long term so we had to make a decision.

After lots of testing and many sleepless nights and of course the requisite effort amounting to thousands of print hours, the Toyko team standardised on the Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D printer. This gifted little workhorse has allowed us to scale our operations to become one of South Africa's largest Bambu Lab print farms, if not the largest. We never thought we'd get to wear that badge but through consistent effort in developing the right partnerships, and investing in a stable and repeatable ecosystem, we're quite proud of our print farm and the results we've been able to produce. We have developed a proprietary manufacturing workflow alongside a semi-industrial print farm management backend that simplifies operations making the Toyko print farm one of the most advanced in Africa. What we have created with these machines would be difficult to match.

We currently operate 60 machines and that number continues to grow monthly.
